Sand Cordgrass is a durable native grass that provides exceptional shoreline stabilization while creating a natural, attractive transition between upland landscapes and the water's edge. At Seabreeze Lake Maintenance, we install Sand Cordgrass throughout Fort Myers and Southwest Florida as part of customized shoreline restoration and littoral planting projects designed to reduce erosion and improve the long-term health of lake ecosystems.
Well suited for upper lake banks and shoreline areas that experience only occasional flooding, Sand Cordgrass thrives in a variety of soil conditions and adapts well to changing moisture levels. As it matures, it forms dense clumps of upright green foliage that typically grow two to three feet tall, providing year-round texture and a clean, natural appearance.
The plant's extensive fibrous root system is one of its greatest strengths. These deep roots help anchor shoreline soils, minimize erosion caused by rainfall and wave action, and reduce sediment runoff into the lake. Once established, Sand Cordgrass requires very little maintenance and can be periodically trimmed for a more manicured look or left to grow naturally to enhance wildlife habitat and preserve a native shoreline.
